The 'Zamakhaya' Poultry Production ecosystem is a social innovation model that seeks to bring together partner organizations with unique skills and input, empowering rural smallholders to create, scale and sustain self-identified production projects, with novel micro-finance and market off-take guarantees.
Of significance to the model is the notion of microfinance as an enabler for innovative production and value addition through market linkages. By shifting away from the traditional model of microfinance lending as determined by loan interest repayments, to a more holistic approach which involves participation at all stages of the value chain, this ecosystem presents an innovative investment opportunity to unlock value in the untapped and under-utilised smallholder farming space.
